Kickoff OOpenFriends project

     I am starting new open source project based on SAP technologies. The idea is to implement a kind of social network with all the main functions a normal social network should have. Accounts, Relations, Newsfeed, Chat and so on. 

The goals of the project are:

1. gather programming experience in SAP technologies

2. use this project as a portfolio for new job opportunities and projects

3. extending my own skills in different approaches, f.e. try myself in blogging

    Now some words about what this project should be and which techniques I want to use to build this up. The frontend may be implemented on Fiori and SAPUI5. Backend will contain an API written in ABAP OO. Data will be stored in SAP HANA database. All the sources will be placed on GitHub. Documentation will be written in UML. Development will be performed on a local development environment (VM with SAP 7.52 and HANA DB running in Docker Container). If/when the project will golive, the demo will be placed in the cloud. Sources will be avaiable in GitHub all the time.

    I want to develop this project as professional as I can. That means, I will use scrum with sprints duration f.e. 2 weeks. I will make sprint planning and retro and use kanban board to plan and track tasks, bugs and activities. 

    I am not sure how many time I would find for the project and how long and deep it will be developed. But everything I will do will be posted here.

The name OOpenFriends I have choosen is pretty simple as this should be object oriented open source social network :) Sorry, I did not find a better name and I suppose it is okey for my purpose.

In the next post I will start with the planning of the first sprint.

Getting started with SAP Fiori and OData on local SAP ABAP Developer Edition VM

    I continue developing the OOpenFriend project and the next step should be the first fiori elements list page for accounts as proof of concept. But does my local developer environment support fiori at all? Lets clarify this. From the OpenSAP course we can get following architectural overview Fiori elements app need OData services to work, s o we need to implement OData services first. And also I need SAP Gateway, where these OData services may be placed and run. OData services may be developed in Cloud using CAP and on-premise using RAP - ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model. Running Fiori elements App on local VM with SAP Developer Edition

    I would recommend to start reading this topic with my previous article    Getting started with ODATA      In the previous part I have created a CDS view and exposed it as OData service. Now I want to build frontend as Fiori elements list report object page on this OData service. Using the standard tutorials for setup Visual Stusio Code and setup the prerequisites for SAP Gateway, the first fiori app was generated.      But it was too early to be glad, because the preview of the application in the browser did not show any data.       Good, F12 says for the error request that we have to look into /IWFND/ERROR_LOG (do not forget to put /n before the transaction name, othervise it says "no such transaction").
